MISSION

To advocate for wildlife habitat in British Columbia (BC) and the betterment of policy-making decisions concerning habitat management in BC.

Context

Unlikely Allies has come together as a group of leaders from tourism, conservation, and science to bring a collective voice to the matter of habitat management in British Columbia. The group aims to facilitate a practical approach for a better habitat management model, which we believe is needed to improve habitat management by creating a dialogue with Ministry officials. The purpose is to ensure wildlife's longevity with the competition of resource extraction, bringing the need for increased habitat management to the forefront of conversations with the government.

Through the province’s Together for Wildlife Strategic Framework process, it is evident that the province considers wildlife essential to BC's wellbeing and is willing to engage with different groups who represent various interests concerning wildlife and their habitat.

OBJECTIVES

Unlikely Allies will:

  • Assess and address barriers to the sustainability of habitat in BC and jointly develop solutions, as appropriate, for the benefit of wildlife in BC and to advance the province's objectives in the Together for Wildlife strategic framework.

  • Identify opportunities for the province to shift its focus towards a more sustainable habitat management process that considers all wildlife.
